Vision X USA's and DENALI Electronics' product development and vehicle application division is located in Exeter, Rhode Island and shares facilities with Vision X's Twisted Throttle motorcycle accessory division. The vehicle application division designs and develops industry-leading lighting and electronics solutions for the motorcycle, ATV, Side x Side, and automotive markets globally.

The Position. Join our team of in-house designers to bring innovative lighting, safety, and electrical product to market!  The primary role of this position is to use Solidworks CAD software to design, prototype, test-fit and coordinate the development of vehicle-specific LED light mounts, horn mounts, and other mechanical and wiring adapters. You will be providing support to product designers and engineers by designing 3D product and assembly models, assembly drawings, production bills of materials, and all necessary production documentation. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, basic DC electrical wiring skills, and an understanding of fundamental design and manufacturing principles. The design work is focused entirely on motorcycle and automotive applications so experience working on or around vehicles is strongly preferred. The position requires prototyping and light fabrication experience to build and test-fit product designs. Our fully equipped prototyping shop includes 3D printing, CNC milling, CNC plasma cutting, and all other traditional cutting and bending equipment. This position will work alongside other product designers and will report to the Director of Product Development. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Use Solidworks CAD software to design sheet metal, machined, and injection molded components, assemblies, and finished consumer products
  • Use various 3D printing, 3D scanning, and fabrication equipment to create and test product prototypes 
  • Specify appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques for production
  • Create and finalize production-ready drawings of all product components and assemblies
  • Coordinate product quotations, product samples, and product inspection reports with our network of global manufacturers
  • Coordinate and transport borrowed vehicles according to the development schedule 
  • Document vehicle-specific wiring connectors and wire functions  
  • Document the assembly and installation process by taking photos, shooting videos, and creating instruction manuals
  • Create and maintain an organized file system of all production documentation including drawings, CAD models, installation photos, and assembly bills of materials

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of job experience in mechanical engineering or Industrial Design (Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Proficiency in Solidworks CAD Software required (especially sheet metal design features)
  • Prototyping and metal fabrication experience required
  • Experience with 3D printing, 3D scanning and CNC equipment preferred 
  • Experience working on, or around, vehicles preferred
  • Experience with automotive or motorcycle wiring preferred
  • Knowledge of databases and spreadsheets, including Access and Excel, preferred
  • Portfolio of Solidworks projects and prototyping work required to apply
